phone 07919 986456 or 01530 234309

The emphasis for this group is short, slow-paced manageable walks with an empathy for members who find group walking a bit daunting & an opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts / photographers.
The Leader will be at the meeting place whatever the weather & only cancel the walk in consultation with those who turn up on the day. Wear suitable clothing, footwear & sun protection & carry a water bottle. Always keep dogs under close control.
All Leaders act in a voluntary capacity, carry a First Aid box & emergency contact list. All walkers join the walk at their own risk

| Tue 4th Aug | 10.15 for 10.30 start | Meet at Willesley Wood, Oakthorpe Colliery Site DE12 7QG | Estelle | Set in the heart of the National Forest this is a jewel of a wood. The all-abilities level footpath makes a small circuit of the western end of the wood. There are a number of benches we can pause at along the way that offer good views of Thortit lake. There is a largish picnic area close to the parking place with seating. From the centre of Ashby, take the Ashby Road towards Measham & turn right just before the Golf Club into Willesley Lane. Continue past the crossroads with Willesley Woodside for 0.25 miles to the entrance of Oakthorpe Colliery. Parking is free but it gets very busy so aim to arrive early! |
Tuesday 7th July. Sence Valley Forest Park
Ten friends old and new met and thoroughly enjoyed a relaxed, casual & very warm visit to this lovely area.
There was plenty to stop and stare at along the way. It was amazing how many butterflies of all shapes, colours and sizes surrounded us.
We caught up with a paddling of young mallard ducks at the first lake and a beautiful Swan family tending their four pretty, fluffy cygnets at the second lake.
A warm breeze fanned us at the start of our meander, developing into a hot spell at the finish.
As the heat increased, we took it really easy and returned to the parking place by 12 noon.
