Food from Afar is the new name for International Cuisine! We aim to try all sorts of food from around the world, not just curries.

6th November 2025 - Omomo Korean Street Food, Derby

Nine of the thirteen who originally booked for our visit to Omomo Korean Street Food actually turned up, which was a little disappointing. The owner and staff were most amenable, efficient and professional. The meals were authentically Korean. One dish was particularly interesting as it was enthusiastically accepted by the American troops, yet it was basically a stew made up of all the leftovers from other dishes.

Our next meeting will be a first for the group. We will be sampling the Chinese buffet at the Wing Wah in New Street Burton Upon Trent at 6pm on 4 December 2025 at 6pm. Eleven have already booked for the occasion but we can increase the booking if more wish to join us. If you wish to attend, please let Colin Woodland know at food_from_afar@ashbyu3a.co.uk. I have had to pay a £10 a head deposit which is non-refundable. If you are attending, please bring £10 in cash to reimburse me and you will then pay the restaurant the cost of your drinks and meal with a £10 discount. Complicated, I know, but that is the only way the restaurant works!

There will be no Food From Afar gathering in January 2026 as most of us will have been saying goodbye to the old year and hello to the new one the night before.
