Food from Afar

Food from Afar is the new name for International Cuisine! We aim to try all sorts of food from around the world, not just curries.

5th February 2026 - Aurora Cafe, Pass Courtyard, Ashby de la Zouch

The staff at the Aurora Cafe opened specially and exclusively for us to taste some traditional Ukrainian food. Eighteen of us managed to almost completely fill the cafe. We were served with a Sauerkraut salad and pickles starter. This was followed by Ukrainian Borscht, Lamb Goulash and roast Pork. After trying Ukrainian Dumplings, we finished with a Ukrainian Apple Pie. It was interesting to observe some distinct differences in the dishes from those with similar names from other Eastern European countries.

For our next soiree we are returning to an old favourite at La Torre Italian Restaurant, on the High Street in Coalville at 6pm on 5 March 2026. So Far, thirteen people have signed up. If you would like to join then, please let Colin Woodland Know at food_from_afar@ashbtu3a.co.uk.
