The 10 Milers
Monday 26th January 2026. Ticknall to Foremark, led by Christine
5 of us met at Ticknall Village hall on a rather cloudy but dry day. We set of along the National Forest way and at the Hangman’s stone we turned left and headed towards Foremark Reservoir. Water levels are surprisingly still quite low despite the recent wet weather. We continued along the National Forest way towards Carvers Rocks before following a bridle path towards Repton and Milton. We then followed a muddy path before rejoining the National Forest Way back to Ticknall.
Just under 10 miles. On our return we all enjoyed a hot drink and homemade cake.
Monday 3rd November 2025. Ticknall to Melbourne, led by Christine
Just two of us started the walk from Ticknall on a dry mild day in November. We made our way along Chapel street and through Stanton Woods and Robin Woods towards Woodend Cottage. We crossed a field to St Brides and then walked around the lake at Melbourne where we stopped for refreshments at the little cabin. We walked to Staunton Harold Reservoir and followed the path to enter Calke Estate. The final bit of the walk was through Serpentine Woods and back onto the tramway trail to Ticknall. Finishing with homemade cake and coffee (joined by an extra for the tea and cake!).
Please note future walks will be on the 4th Monday of the month starting at 9.30am
Monday 1st September 2025. Ticknall to Foremark, led by Christine
Our first longer walk started with 4 of us at the WI garden seat in Market street. As we all had already walked to the starting point we inadvertently added another mile to the walk!
We walked along the Tamworth road and walked through the golf course and then taking a footpath through Willesley Woods to Oakthorpe. We then joined part of the Ivanhoe Way before turning towards Moira Furnace for a brief rest and refreshment. We then followed the National Forest Way into Hicks Lodge and back into Ashby - a total of 11 miles.
All of us were able to complete the U3A walk the next day with out too many aching muscles!
