Poetry Reading

We aim to get together to read, enjoy and discuss poetry. We meet on the third Thursday of the month at 2.30 pm.

16th July

The poetry group had a very interesting meeting in July. As a lot of the poetry we have looked at so far has been written by men, we decided to look at poetry written by women. In the meeting, we ranged from Christina Rossetti to Vicky Husband, Carol Anne Duffy and Ruth Silcock. Husband's poem, 'Extremely Large Telescope' provoked a very interesting and wide-ranging discussion into 'life, the universe and everything'!

Our next meeting will be on Thursday August 20th and we'll be looking at the rest of the poems we didn't have time for in July - Emily Dickinson, Louise Gluck, Wendy Cope, U.A. Fanthorpe, Imtiaz Dharker amongst them.
