Poetry Reading

We aim to get together to read, enjoy and discuss poetry. We meet on the third Thursday of the month at 2.30 pm.

During the March meeting, we looked at favourite poems or poets of group members. Pablo Neruda's 'The Rail-Splitter Awakes' gave us an enjoyable challenge and two love poems by John Donne were much enjoyed. ('A Valediction Forbidding Mourning' and 'The Sunne Rising'). Lawrence Ferlinghetti's 'Two Scavenger's in a Truck' was a good contrast and the humour of U A Fanthorpe's 'Not My Best Side' went down well. We appreciated revisiting 'Do Not go Gently into that Good Night' by Dylan Thomas which provoked an interesting discussion and Yeats' 'Cloths of Heaven'.

The next meeting will be on Monday April 27th at 2.30 - change of date due to holidays and other commitments. We will be looking at poems of war or conflict. Anyone wishing to join the group, please get in touch. (07857688822). You would be very welcome.
