The Curling Group
Leader:  Estelle Sandles - email@example.com - phone 07919 986456
Curling is played to simple rules on a polished wooden floor, not on ice! It is very low impact so suitable for all ages and physical abilities.
Players do not need to bend, crouch or kneel. Great for dodgy knees, hips and backs! Easy to learn, it is meant to be more fun than competitive.
Opposing red and blue pairs are drawn randomly at the start of each meeting, so it is a great way to get to know your fellow curlers.
We will meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month from 1 to 3 pm, at the Charles Booth Centre, The Green, Thringstone, LE67 8NR
Refreshments are served at half time from an attached well-equipped kitchen.
There is a large car park at the centre and car sharing is encouraged.
The centre is not physically disabled friendly yet, but if you can handle a few gentle stairs it wouldn’t be a problem.
Flat shoes must be worn, apart from that the equipment is all provided.
The cost is £2 per session for room and equipment hire.
Despite having only played one taster session, the group already has a full complement of participants. Estelle is keeping a waiting list of anyone wishing to join if others drop out.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CURLING GROUP HAS DECIDED TO POSTPONE ALL FURTHER ACTIVITY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVID-19 AND THE DIFFICULTY OF CLEANING ALL THE EQUIPMENT WHICH IS CONTINUOUSLY HANDLED BY ALL THE PLAYERS
Monday 27th January
18 members met for their first taste of Curling on Monday 27 January. They all embraced the fun element of the sport in true U3A fashion. It was good humour and laughter all the way with the beginnings of some strategic play. A big thank you to all those who attended and helped run the afternoon.
The group meet again on Monday 3rd February at 1pm sharp when we will be introduced to some scoring match play with our randomly allotted partners.
We are currently operating a waiting list to join. Please contact the group leader to be added to the list.
